2018 Highlights!

May 19 2025

Happy New Year 2019 from the entire Voyage Cambodge team! Last year was filled with hard work, compromises, and strong emotions for the Voyage Seripheap team. To kick off the new year on the right foot, our editorial team would like to (re)share the articles you loved most over the past 12 months.

January – Come and explore Cambodia

In January, we shared 10 good, though admittedly subjective, reasons to join us in Cambodia — the Kingdom of Smiles. The pearl of Southeast Asia. The arena of Khmer fishermen, untamed landscapes, and the remnants of one of the greatest empires in history. A land of natural hospitality… In short, it would be a shame to go through life without experiencing it.

February – PassApp arrives in Siem Reap!

In February, we covered the arrival of what has become a digital staple in Cambodia: the PassApp ride-hailing app! This VTC (ride-sharing) service grew rapidly within just a year and a half. Today, you're more likely to see a PassApp rickshaw than a traditional tuk-tuk trailer. Several other apps have also launched since, including Grab, which replaced Uber in March last year.

March – A close-up on Phnom Penh’s markets

In March, we described the unique atmosphere of Phnom Penh’s psah (markets). The article featured useful tips, cultural explanations, and a few clever insights. (Re)discover them without moderation!

April – A trip through Mondulkiri

In April, we took you on a journey through the wonders of Mondulkiri province, in eastern Cambodia. A dream destination for nature lovers. Known for its coffee production and elephant sanctuaries, this region is full of delightful surprises. A look back worth revisiting.

May – How to avoid tourist scams

Every year, many travelers fall victim to scams across the globe. In May, we compiled the most common tourist traps in Cambodia and how to avoid them — valuable advice for a stress-free trip.

June – The Queen Mother’s Birthday

June 18th is a national holiday in Cambodia, honoring the birthday of Queen Mother Monineath, widow of the late King Norodom Sihanouk. Affectionately known as Queen Monique, she continues to unite the Khmer people. A portrait of grace and influence.

July – Let’s talk food!

In July, you loved our delicious feature on Riz Kapi — a Southeast Asian staple! Stir-fried rice with shrimp paste. A dish easy to prepare at home and full of authentic flavor.

August – 5 essential travel apps for Cambodia

In August, we introduced 5 must-have apps for a successful trip to the Kingdom. One app in particular captured your attention: Hidden Place! Powered by user input, it helps travelers uncover hidden gems off the beaten path.

September – Identity and the Franco-Khmer experience

In September, we published a micro-investigation exploring the identity journey of Franco-Khmers — the second generation born after their parents fled Cambodia in the 1970s. Powerful testimonials shed light on the often complex process of self-discovery and cultural integration.

October – The famous Kampot Pepper

Two months ago, we took you on a journey through the renowned Kampot pepper region. From its history to its cultivation and culinary uses, local farmers and experts shared their insights on this prized product of southern Cambodia.

November – A Khmer girl on top of the World!

At just 17 years old, Jessa Khan has reached the pinnacle of the jiu-jitsu world. This Khmer-American athlete won the blue belt world championship and brought home a gold medal for Cambodia at the Asian Games this summer. A true role model.

December – A viral sensation

In November and December, 14-year-old Salik Tuch became an internet sensation! A street vendor filmed by a Malaysian tourist, he impressed viewers by speaking over ten languages. His linguistic talent quickly went viral, attracting attention from global media outlets.
