The project named Tourism, Ecological, Marine and International (TEMI) was approved on Monday by the Council for the Development of Cambodia (CDC). The Chinese group Union City Development Group Co. LTD is leading the initiative.

The project is part of a larger tourism program that includes TEMI in Kiri Sakor, as well as the construction of the Dara Sakor Seashore Resort in Botum Sakor, located in Koh Kong province. The Chinese group holds a 450-square-kilometer (45,000-hectare) concession for the project. TEMI, which will cost $500.4 million, is expected to feature a five-star hotel with 800 rooms, a golf course, bungalows, villas, a shopping center, and amusement parks.

A project for employment, according to authorities

Over 5,000 jobs are expected to be created upon the opening of the complex. The Vice-Governor of Koh Kong province, Sok Sothy, assured the Phnom Penh Post that the project would "promote the image of the province, create thousands of jobs, and increase the income of local residents." This coastal area, as well as the entire Koh Kong province, has seen a rise in hotel and guesthouse constructions in recent years, attracting Thai tourists due to its proximity to the border, as well as Chinese visitors. Cambodian tourists currently prefer the beaches of Kep and Kampot, especially since the mountainous road leading to Koh Kong is long and dangerous. A new road is also under development between Battambang and Kiri Sakor.
