Sombai, the liqueur workshop

Located on Sombai Road, just 2 km from downtown Siem Reap, the boutique offers a unique infused rice wine liqueur known as sombai. This local spirit comes in eight different flavors, each a combination of two distinctive ingredients.

The Backstory

Sombai is the story of a couple who settled in Siem Reap and were surprised to find there was no typical local spirit representing the city. Without hesitation, they decided to create one themselves—a drink that would go on to become a symbol of Siem Reap. Drawing on techniques acquired in the islands and using local ingredients, sombai was born and quickly established itself as the region’s signature beverage.

An eco-friendly and responsible approach

Sombai is more than just a company selling alcohol. It is committed to reusing bottles in good condition, using newspaper and fabric bags to help reduce plastic waste.

In addition, the workshop supports the income of local minorities and promotes the inclusion of individuals who are visually or hearing impaired.

Sombai offers guided tours of the workshop, revealing the secrets behind its production, followed by tastings of the different flavors.

For those who want to get more involved and learn more about the drink, Sombai also offers a cocktail-making class, where participants can try their hand at creating two cocktails based on the iconic liqueur.
