The hidden paradises of the Cambodian islands

Mar 13 2025

Many are far from imagining that Cambodia’s coasts and islands are true little paradises on Earth. However, Cambodia need not shy away from its dream beaches. The Cambodian islands do not enjoy the same fame as their neighbors in Thailand, preserving their authenticity.

Far from mass tourism, it is possible to spend a peaceful holiday on idyllic beaches in total tranquility. Here’s an overview of the most beautiful Cambodian islands for a relaxing getaway with family or loved ones.

Koh Rong island

Koh Rong Island is located in the Gulf of Thailand, about two hours from the shores of Sihanoukville. This untouched island is still preserved from mass tourism, even though it is considered one of the most beautiful islands in Cambodia.

Miles of white sandy beaches, turquoise waters, coral reefs, lush jungles, and friendly locals await you for an unforgettable stay. The restaurants along the beach will serve delicious dishes made with fresh fish, seafood, or tasty curry.

Koh Rong Samloem

Smaller than Koh Rong, Koh Rong Samloem also offers magnificent dream beaches with turquoise waters. Very isolated, this island immerses you in a dreamlike landscape that many would not have imagined discovering in Cambodia.

Enjoy the fine sandy beaches all to yourself and relax under the shade of coconut trees. For honeymoon stays, Koh Rong Samloem is the perfect destination.

Koh Tonsay (Rabbit Island)

Contrary to what its name might suggest, you won’t find any rabbits on this small island located 30 minutes by boat from Kep.

Rabbit Island unveils itself in a very laid-back atmosphere. Napping in a hammock and strolling along the water's edge set the pace for the days. You can walk around the island to discover its beaches, villages, and surrounding flora.

Koh Ta Kiev, the Lost Island

For those who love adventure and getaways to nature, this small unspoiled island is the perfect place. You can camp on the beach, facing the sea. No comfort is available, but being alone on this little paradise will make you feel as though the island belongs to you.

You can enjoy the beaches and the turquoise waters to relax and engage in some snorkeling. At sunset, witness the fabulous views facing the sea.

Koh Thmei

The small island of Koh Thmei, located in the Ream National Park, is a little-known paradise for tourists. Overlooked by mangrove forests, the island boasts pristine beaches. The island has only two small villages, where you can meet the few inhabitants who primarily live from fishing.

Koh Seh

Koh Seh is a nearly deserted island that will delight underwater life enthusiasts. Here, you can swim alongside dolphins, turtles, and even dugongs. As night falls, discover the magic of bioluminescent plankton that illuminate the water’s surface.
