Day 4: Encounter with Mekong Dolphins & Stop in Kampong Thom

For this fourth day, we suggest you experience an unforgettable moment as a couple: an encounter with Irrawaddy dolphins. These freshwater dolphins, nicknamed Mekong dolphins, are among Cambodia's iconic animals. To do this, head to Kampi, where most boat excursions depart.

On the way, you can also stop at Beng Mealea Temple. Buried in the heart of an overgrown and isolated jungle, it's one of the most mysterious temples of the ancient city of Angkor. A chance to play adventurers as a couple.

Note: Beng Mealea is part of the Angkor Archaeological Park. You must obtain your Angkor Pass before visiting. Plan for a 3-day pass if you're following this itinerary.

Day 7: Visiting the Majestic Temples of Angkor

You've reached one of the most anticipated stages of any Cambodia trip: visiting the temples of Angkor. To save time and see as much as possible, we recommend booking a day-long tuk tuk tour.

Among Angkor's iconic temples you absolutely must see are:

• Angkor Wat: a symbol of the Khmer Empire's apex during the Angkorian era, it's the largest, most important and most visited temple on the site;
• Ta Prohm: with its centuries-old trees whose roots intertwine with the stones, it's among Angkor's most mythical temples;
• Bayon: a temple-mountain famous for its many towers with 216 sculpted Buddha heads;
• Baphuon: a temple-mountain known for its impressive reclining Buddha statue;

Day 8: Discovering Hidden Treasures of Angkor

To continue exploring Angkorian archaeological sites while getting away from the crowds, you can venture further to discover hidden gems where fewer visitors tread.

Start by visiting Kbal Spean, famous for being the temple of 1,000 lingas of Angkor. Used as a Hindu worship site in the 11th century, you'll find temple ruins along a river whose bed is dotted with sculpted lingas, phallic symbols representing Shiva.

You can then head to Banteay Srey, a pink sandstone temple nicknamed "the Citadel of Women." Its decorations, particularly bas-reliefs and sculptures, rank among the finest carvings of the Angkor temples.

You can also plan a visit to the Angkor Center for Biodiversity Protection, an NGO dedicated to nature conservation that rescues endangered animals.

Day 9: Peaceful Stop at the Floating Villages of Kampong Khleang
