Banlung, the ideal destination to meet the villages of northeastern Cambodia, is also famous for its three waterfalls, particularly Kachang. A true slice of paradise that promises a wonderful moment of relaxation. Deep in the jungle, Kachang falls is located just a few kilometers southwest of Banlung. Don't miss this natural wonder during your visit.

Discovering Kachang Waterfall

Whether accompanied by your guide or traveling solo, you'll have the chance to experience a wonderful adventure exploring Kachang Waterfall. On the road toward Ratanakiri, you'll have the opportunity to approach the Laos border at Stung Treng and also to meet the ethnic minorities Tompuon of the region.

A wooden bridge provides access to Kachang Falls. The bridge offers a perfect view of the waterfall. However, there's also another path from the parking area that will lead you behind the waterfall where you'll have a view from above. You may encounter several Cambodian families bathing and washing at the top of the cascade.

Kachang Waterfall measures 12 meters high and offers a magnificent natural setting. It's a peaceful location where downstream there's a basin ideal for swimming, and upstream you can enjoy calm waters. Upon arrival at the waterfall, you can enjoy a wonderful moment of relaxation and a swim.

The jungle enhances the landscape, and just a few meters from the falls you'll also find rubber tree plantations, cashew trees, pepper plants and some coffee trees. Unfortunately, Ratanakiri's forest is disappearing rapidly. This doesn't prevent visitors, however, from appreciating the waterfall's great beauty. A little further on, there's also a beautiful lake that visitors can explore.

When heading to the waterfall, don't forget to bring a swimsuit and towel. Along the way, it may also be wise to bring a compass to easily find your way without getting lost on the dirt tracks.

Getting There

To reach Kachang Waterfall, you'll first need to get to Banlung. You can take a minibus from Phnom Penh to Stung Treng. From there, you change to another minibus to the town of Banlung, approximately 3 hours away.

Since the roads leading to the waterfall are made of red earth, it's highly recommended to rent a mountain bike, motorbike scooter or pickup truck for jungle rides. You'll also have the option of taking elephant rides.

• Banlung's waterfalls are accessible year-round, but it's preferable to visit during the dry season, that is, in January. At this time, roads will be more accessible and the basin water will be clear to fully enjoy swimming.
