Wooden bungalows on Saracen Bay beach at Koh Rong Sanloem: a simple seaside retreat, without pool or spa, for a peaceful island break after Angkor.

Orchid Resort occupies a stretch of Saracen Bay, on the east coast of Koh Rong Sanloem. A dozen wooden bungalows set back from the sand, a restaurant with its feet in the water, and a beach stretching several kilometers as your view: the property embraces simple seaside hospitality, without pretensions of luxury.

Why stay here

Saracen Bay remains one of the most accessible bays on Koh Rong Sanloem, with clear sand and shallow water extending for dozens of meters offshore. Orchid Resort takes full advantage of this ground-level location: from your bungalow's terrace, you reach the shore in just a few steps, with no stairs or roads to cross.

The property is ideal for a restorative break after the temples of Angkor or the humidity of Phnom Penh: you come here to slow down, read, swim, and enjoy a setting where electricity runs on fixed schedules determined by the resort.

Atmosphere and bungalows

Accommodations are individual wooden-structure bungalows, lined facing the bay or in a second row within the gardens. Each unit comes with wifi, air conditioning, ceiling fans, and mosquito nets—a useful combination on a tropical island where humidity is relentless.

The overall atmosphere is that of a small island resort: no grand reception area, no pool, no spa. The rhythm is dictated by the tides, the boats servicing the bay around midday, and sunsets beyond the jungle-lined beach.

Dining and services

The restaurant sits directly on the beach under an open structure. The menu blends Khmer dishes (amok, lok lak, curries), fresh grilled fish of the day, and basic Western options for breakfast. Local catch is what shines: barracuda, tuna, squid depending on what arrives that day.

  • Restaurant and bar beachfront
  • Wifi in bungalows (island bandwidth—patience advised)
  • Air conditioning and ceiling fans in all units
  • Mosquito nets provided on beds
  • Boat transfers from Sihanoukville arranged through reception

Location

Saracen Bay is the main bay of Koh Rong Sanloem, on the island's east-facing shore. The speedboat from Sihanoukville takes roughly 45 minutes to 1 hour depending on the operator and weather. Orchid Resort sits on the central portion of the bay, a short walk from other properties and the main pier.

The island has no paved roads: you move on foot along the beach or via jungle trails to reach neighboring bays (Lazy Beach, Sunset Beach).

What to see and do nearby

  • Lazy Beach: jungle trek (30–40 min) to a wilder beach on the west side
  • Sunset Beach: marked trail, best visited in late afternoon
  • Bioluminescent plankton: evening kayak outings offered seasonally
  • Snorkeling: reefs accessible from the beach, decent marine life around the jetties
  • Koh Rong (neighboring island): day excursions available
