Kayak Excursion in Kratié

The peaceful town of Kratié lives to the rhythm of the Mekong River. It's hard to visit without being captivated by the breathtaking scenery and sunsets with the river as a constant backdrop. The Mekong also offers an ideal setting for anyone looking to enjoy a half-day of both physical activity and fun. Hop into your kayak and set off on an adventure to explore the region's diverse landscapes at the pace of your paddle.

Depending on the season, two different tours are available.

From November to June

After a 30-minute drive from Kratié to the departure point, your guide and their team will prepare the equipment and provide safety instructions. You will then begin paddling toward the opposite bank, where the river begins to meander, forming a maze of hundreds of small islands.

You’ll float downstream with the current, weaving through these sandy islets, and making several stops on charming river beaches. Here, you can take a swim and enjoy light refreshments provided to help you recharge. The second part of the tour takes you through a submerged forest before exiting the winding channels and returning to the broader Mekong.

This area, near Kampi, is home to the rare Irrawaddy dolphins, or at the very least, a great spot to observe them. With a bit of luck, you may catch a glimpse of these elusive creatures as they surface for air—or simply to greet you.

From July to October

This tour also departs from the same location as the dry season route. You’ll paddle through flooded forests and woodland areas, passing by agricultural fields and traditional villages along the way.

Depending on the water level, there may be two sections with stronger currents. Don’t worry—your guide will assist you in navigating them smoothly and safely. A wide variety of birds and butterflies can often be seen throughout the journey. You’ll also have the opportunity to observe a riverside village in full activity, offering a unique, peaceful, and relaxing glimpse into rural Cambodia.
