The floating village of Kampong Luong

Located on the shores of Southeast Asia’s largest lake, the Tonlé Sap, and about forty kilometers from the town of Pursat, Kampong Luong is home to a socially diverse population. Many Vietnamese people fled the Khmer Rouge atrocities and founded this village, later joined by numerous Cambodians. A blending of cultures that is still uncommon in the rest of Khmer territory.

Fishing as a way of life

The people of Kampong Luong live primarily from fishing. The Tonlé Sap is an exceptional aquatic ecosystem that harbors over 300 different fish species. You’ll be charmed by the village’s authenticity and atmosphere. Stilt houses line the waterways, bearing witness to the comings and goings of the locals’ boats—because here, everyone gets around by water.
