Vegetarian food in Cambodia

Whether it’s for personal beliefs, desire, or medical necessity, eating vegetarian in Cambodia isn’t always straightforward. Khmer cuisine typically includes fish or meat in most dishes. Below are our favorite addresses in Phnom Penh, Kampot, Siem Reap, and Battambang, which are the most important cities in Cambodia to satisfy your stomach with vegetarian meals.

When you're unfamiliar with Cambodia, it can be difficult to know where to find good vegetarian restaurants. To avoid any disappointment, we went on a mission to discover the best vegetarian restaurants in the country.

Phnom Penh

Vego Salad Bar

Vego is a bit of a specialist in salads, wraps, and bagels in Phnom Penh. A wide selection of snacks is available for around $6. For those interested, you can also create your own salad.

Highlights: We appreciate the neat decoration.

Address: 3Eo Pasteur St. (51), Phnom Penh

Backyard Café

What is Backyard Café? Healthy food galore for around $7. There’s no shortage of choices—you can eat pasta, sandwiches, bowls, salads, or house specialties, all served generously.

Highlights: The restaurant’s aesthetic and the creativity of the dishes served. The café donates 10% of its profits to an organization called “Good Vibe Foundation,” which helps schoolchildren eat healthily.

Address : 11b, street 246 Phnom Penh

Kampot

Eco Vegetarian

Eco Vegetarian, a small restaurant with a cozy atmosphere, will delight your taste buds with fresh and organic food. Upon arrival, you’ll be charmed by the decor and the friendly, welcoming French owners. The menu changes daily, and there’s a small list of tempting dishes. Expect to pay around $10 for a menu that includes a dish, dessert, and drink.

Highlights: High-quality, flavorful food and the kindness of the staff.

Address : Street 710, Kampot

Siem Reap

The Veg G Table

Quality and quantity are on the menu for about $6 in a warm atmosphere. The cuisine is mainly Mediterranean in flavor, with dishes such as the famous hummus from the Middle East.

Highlights: Special mention for the burger and the owner. Additionally, we appreciate the restaurant's responsible approach, using bamboo straws, for example.

Address: 175 Wat Bo Rd, Siem Reap

Battambang

Around the World

A small restaurant that doesn’t look like much but is a gem. The dishes are simple and delicious. The establishment has both a terrace and an indoor dining area. Inside, you can eat Khmer-style at a low table while sitting on cushions in a friendly atmosphere.

Highlights: A simple place with the warm smile of the family running the restaurant.

Address: 121 59 Street No. 2.5 Between 119, Battambang

Other alternatives to vegetarian restaurants

If you're in a rush or prefer something simpler, many Khmer restaurants offer at least one vegetarian dish.

If, by chance, they don’t, you can still ask for fried rice without meat or fish.
