Elephant Valley Project

The team at the Elephant Valley Project (EVP) works daily to protect elephants and the forests of Mondulkiri. These ecosystems are increasingly threatened by deforestation, which not only destroys the natural habitat of elephants and other wildlife, but also forces many ethnic minority communities to relocate in search of forested areas that can still provide essential resources.

Stripping away the spectacle

While many companies and organizations offer encounters with elephants—encouraging tourists to touch them, or even ride them—the Elephant Valley Project firmly opposes these practices. EVP advocates for an experience that avoids spectacle and showmanship. No football-playing elephants, no painting with trunks, no tricks or performances—just respectful observation. These acts are purely for the amusement of tourists and offer no benefit to the animals themselves. Instead, EVP invites you to simply walk alongside the elephants, accompanied by a knowledgeable guide, to observe their natural behavior, understand their needs, and learn about the current threats facing the forests of Mondulkiri.

The organization currently protects 300,000 hectares of forest in Mondulkiri, with 1,500 hectares dedicated to its ten resident elephants. More than 2,000 local residents benefit from EVP’s initiatives. All that’s missing now is your visit—come witness this essential conservation work that is helping to shape a sustainable future for the province.
