Cambodian airports set new passenger traffic record

Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville confirm their role in Cambodia's tourism development, with record-breaking passenger numbers and new flight route projects on the horizon.

03 Jan. 2019With 10 million visitors in 2018, Cambodia's three airports—Phnom Penh, Siem Reap and Sihanoukville—have broken their previous 2017 record of 8.8 million passengers, according to Éric Delobel, CEO of Cambodia Airports.

By way of comparison, this traffic volume matches exactly what Lyon Saint-Exupéry airport recorded for 2017, and falls far short of France's total of around 200 million that same year. Yet it represents significant growth for Cambodia compared to the previous year, with "targets fully met," Éric Delobel assured the local press.

What lies ahead

The business leader sought to temper the enthusiasm around this milestone, however. He pledged to work with the Ministry of Tourism to open new destinations. "We wish to launch direct routes to Australia, India, and Russia," he stated.
