Thrilling Eco-Tourism at Mrs. Bo's Lodge
ផ្លូវចូលភ្នំជ្រាវ, អមលាំង, Cambodia
Two hours from Phnom Penh, Mrs. Bo's lodge offers a nature escape surrounded by rice fields, mountains, stilt houses, and excursions for a simple and heartfelt immersion in Cambodia.
Mrs. Bo's lodge welcomes you in the heart of the Cambodian countryside in this setting, at the borders of Kampong Speu and Kampong Chhnang provinces, adorned with jungles, fields, rice paddies, and mountains. Located 2 hours north of Phnom Penh by car, near the Cardamom Mountains, the retreat welcomes many Khmer and international tourists each year. Four stilt houses are at their disposal and offer a splendid view over the surrounding fields complemented by peaks on the horizon. Numerous activities in close contact with nature can be enjoyed in the surrounding area, based on the recommendations of Mrs. Bo, a guide holding a national diploma, perfectly English-speaking.
It is just a few kilometers away from Phnom Aoral, Cambodia's highest peak (1,813 m), that Sopheary Bo, also known as Mrs. Bo, decided to set up her lodge. Five stilt houses lined up in the middle of a former field that has been redesigned while retaining its natural appeal were constructed in 2017 upon her arrival. The goal is to promote eco-tourism by offering tours and circuits where the guide can share and educate about the environmental future of this Phnom Chriv region. She welcomes you with boundless energy and a desire to show you this area, her passion for nature, and the history of her country in general. You can also enjoy convivial moments to absorb Sopheary's words, always enthusiastic about exchanging.
The dreamy ambiance of a lodge surrounded by mountains
During your stay in these countryside areas of Phnom Chriv, you will rarely be confined to the boundaries of Mrs. Bo's houses. Yet, the evening will be a time of pleasant rest and each meal will allow you to enjoy the place between your activities. The view from each house's terrace over kilometres of countryside and mountains in the background, moves the heart and brings a smile.
Mrs. Bo starts a campfire each late afternoon in front of these dwellings. Perfect for spending a pleasant evening reminiscing about the day's moments, chatting peacefully before sleep, and admiring a breathtaking sunset.
The vegetables and herbs that the guide and her family use to prepare meals all come from her garden which she tends daily. By staying 2 or even 3 nights, you enjoy each meal on-site, with Mrs. Bo and her family taking care of everything. Only Khmer specialties are served here. You will discover many delicious dishes during your stay in Cambodia. The overall atmosphere is truly invigorating and allows for a refreshing rest before exploring the rest of the kingdom.
A seven-level waterfall
The thirtysomething guide will also advise you on activities to enjoy around her corner of paradise. The main attraction is to head directly to Phnom Chriv hill, a few kilometres from here.
You will be captivated upon arrival at the foot of the mountain by the landscape surrounding you. The fields and palm trees, lining the dirt road, are interspersed among mountains, to the left, to the right, with Chriv directly ahead. Your guide will lead you up the initial slopes of the hill to reach the huts of the rural village downstream from the waterfall.
A genuine adventure then begins. You find yourself at level one of this waterfall, which has a total of seven levels. The guide will take you through the jungle, climbing among the trees, vines, and steep trails. At each level reached, you must cross the river to change banks and continue the ascent.
The adrenaline is real and mutual support comes naturally. Everyone feels a responsibility to bring the group to the summit. Once you reach the 6th level, you have a choice. Depending on weather conditions, you may or may not be able to reach the summit. If it rains or has rained, this is too dangerous, better to descend. If you're fortunate and the weather is favourable, attempt this final stage. In either case you will emerge with memories flooding your mind from this expedition through this mountain jungle.
