Les Manguiers

·

English-speaking franco-Khmer ecolodge on the riverbank in Kampot, featuring wooden bungalows, kayaks, and a slow-life atmosphere in a sprawling landscaped garden.

Les Manguiers is a 4-star establishment located on the banks of the Teuk Chhou river, in Kampot, in southwestern Cambodge. Run by an English-speaking franco-Khmer couple, it operates more as a guesthouse ecolodge than a conventional hotel, with a spacious landscaped garden, wooden bungalows, and several outdoor living areas. From Phnom Penh, access is by taxi or tuk-tuk, with a journey of approximately 2.5 hours by road.

Why stay here

We selected Les Manguiers for its waterside setting, family-run character, and the slow-life atmosphere it fully embodies in Kampot. It suits travelers seeking to escape standardized accommodations: families, couples, and small groups of friends wishing to rent the entire house. The opportunity to swim in the river, use kayaks, or participate in local activities organized by the owners makes it a distinctive stop in any Cambodge itinerary.

Guests consistently praise the quality of hospitality, the owners' involvement in local life, and the cuisine served on the riverbank — particularly the fish and seafood. One thing to bear in mind: soundproofing between rooms is limited, and morning birdsong is part of the experience. Earplugs can be helpful for light sleepers.

Atmosphere

The ambiance is that of a family-run property on a human scale: a garden laid out with relaxation zones, games, animals on the grounds, jetties, and terraces overlooking the river. The setting is verdant and tranquil, in keeping with Kampot's unhurried pace. Common areas encourage lingering — pétanque, books, board games — in a home-like spirit rather than mass hospitality.

The rooms

Accommodation offers a broad range of options: rooms in the main house (some with large balconies, others with private terraces, ground floor or upper level), independent wooden bungalows of varying sizes, a full house for groups, and a bungalow positioned directly on the riverside. Some rooms have private bathrooms, others share facilities — a detail to verify depending on the category chosen. Family configurations are well represented, with several options accommodating up to 6 people.
