Phnom Penh, the capital

To begin your 2-week itinerary in Cambodge, acclimatize yourself to the country's history. To do this, Phnom Penh is the ideal base. Indeed, Cambodge's capital has been the scene of many upheavals, particularly since the rise to power of Saloth Sâr, better known as "Pol Pot". Thus, to discover the country's dark past, head to the Tuol Sleng genocide museum, then the Choeung Ek extermination camp. Note that these places are not for everyone. If you have a sensitive soul, it's best to avoid them and focus instead on the majestic historical monuments. As an alternative, you have the Royal Palace or the National Museum located just across from it.

After visiting these historical sites, take a pleasant stroll along the Sisowath Quay, a long promenade that runs along the Mekong, then enjoy the many bars and restaurants to relax with a drink. Before leaving the capital, take some time to discover its markets: the Central Market and the Russian Market. These are true Aladdin's caves where you can shop and bring back plenty of souvenirs.

Off the beaten path in Kampong Thom

Set out to discover Kampong Thom. Located on the road connecting Phnom Penh and Siem Reap, it's pleasant to stop there to discover the rural beauty of Cambodge. The few temples scattered here and there in the countryside will give you a taste of what awaits you in Siem Reap, in the Angkor temple complex. You can rent a scooter and explore the region for a day filled with adventure.

Siem Reap and surroundings

Next head to Siem Reap, the gateway to the famous Angkor temples. Most visitors passing through this province rush to visit this site upon arrival and leave almost immediately.

Yet Siem Reap is not just about Angkor temples. This province has countless attractions that would be a shame to miss during your stay in Cambodge. The ideal itinerary would be to start with the city of Siem Reap, the capital of the province of the same name. It is known for its old market, colonial buildings and the famous Wat Athvea pagoda. Then embark on a boat to observe the floating villages of Tonlé Sap. Save the temple visit for last. This way, you're sure to have an excellent memory of this province and fully enjoy what it has to offer you. In the evening, you can watch some traditional dance performances.

Beaches and small islands

Nothing better than ending your journey with moments of pure relaxation on Cambodge's most beautiful beaches. Indeed, the country boasts magnificent beaches where you can enjoy various activities, such as jet skiing, scuba diving, windsurfing, or simply lounging in the sun. Among the country's most beautiful beaches, note those of the Sihanoukville beach resort, highly coveted by travelers from around the world. To avoid the crowds, take a boat and reach the small islands offshore. Koh Rong or Koh Rong Sanloem are true earthly paradises and promise you a beautiful end to your stay.
